We are not a Brain in a Vat

The use and development of language and abstract conceptualizing have been found to directly relate to our visceral sensations, somatic and kinesthetic experiences. These experiences are linked to metaphors that only become meaningful through our sense of embodiment. After this new data is reconstructed, it is then linked to our vast storage base of concepts, symbols, ideas, responses, and memories. 

As Mary Helen Immodio-Yang describes: “The state of your body changes the way you are predisposed to think about problems”. One of our main heuristics is the belief that we rationally make decisions (at least some of the time). It is more accurate to say that we are capable of thinking rationally, but that our basis for using reason and different types of logic depends on sensational bodily states, and the healthy wiring and connectivity of perceptual and somatic brain regions.
