The most basic indicator of a society's health and value: how we treat our children!
Whatever the proclaimed ideology of a nation, whatever the economic growth outlook— investing in the safety, wellbeing, health, nurturing, education and hopeful opportunity for all children to develop their full cognitive-social-emotional capacities is a global responsibility —a universal mandate—necessary for the future of an interdependent humanity (and the ecosystem as well).

UNICEF Declares 2014 Most Brutal Year for World's Children
From www.nbcnews.com - December 9, 2014
The last year has been the most brutal for the world's children in recent memory, with a quarter of a billion of them living in places touched by armed conflict, UNICEF said in a report on Monday. The onslaught has been so great that many of the protracted crises are no longer capturing global attention.

"Children have been killed while studying in the classroom and while sleeping in their beds; they have been orphaned, kidnapped, tortured, recruited, raped and even sold as slaves. Never in recent memory have so many children been subjected to such unspeakable brutality," UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake said.

India: Little care, concern for lost and found children
From www.hindustantimes.com - September 14, 2014
For children living in the outskirts of the capital, a walk to their favourite shop or a game of hide and seek near the colony park can mean the end of childhood. Children here are picked up like rabbits by falcons. And most children lost in the capital are never found again. Those, who do come back, often tell a story of abuse, torture, confinement and lingering trauma. It’s probably because the number of those recovered is so abysmal that the authorities haven’t been so alarmed yet about how the families and the children cope with this second coming.
