We are the center of excellence for research and education on the prevention, understanding, and treatment of PTSD. Although we are a VA Center, our seven divisions across the country provide expertise on all types of trauma - from natural disasters, terrorism, violence and abuse to combat exposure. Although we provide no direct clinical care, our purpose is to improve the well-being and understanding of individuals who have experienced traumatic events, with a focus on American Veterans. SNAP Research Laboratory
SNAP (STRESS NEUROBIOLOGY AND PREVENTION) is a developmental translational research laboratory. Three inter-related areas: (1) characterizing how stressful experiences that occur in infancy and childhood (2) employing randomized clinical trials to examine the effects of preventive interventions on the plasticity of these neural systems, and (3) impacting policy and practice towards high risk children and families by documenting the cost-effectiveness of preventive interventions, disseminating evidence-based preventive interventions PTSD: Stress and Resilience (video) Focuses on NIMH research in the areas of traumatic stress reactions and specifically mental health issues among U.S. service members. What we learn from the military experience can help us understand stress risk predictions for the entire population.
